Why SPOGOMI

Marine litter is an increasingly serious problem worldwide.

It is estimated that about 80% of marine litter comes from cities, and picking up rubbish is the “last defense” against this problem.

SPOGOMI is an abbreviation of “Sport Gomihiroi (picking up trash)”, a sport in which teams compete against each other for points awarded according to the amount and the type of rubbish picked up in a given area, within a set time limit.

“Picking up trash is a sport!” originated in Japan in 2008.

For the first time in Australia, SPOGOMI World Cup event will be held in the Northern Beaches precinct of Sydney, NSW at the iconic Manly Beach!

We aim to create a proactive approach and a global movement that transcends national and generational boundaries. SPOGOMI aims to reduce litter that eventually ends up in our ocean.

SPOGOMI is good for the community to connect, have fun and enjoy the day!
SPOGOMI is good for the cleanliness and beautification of the environment we live in.
SPOGOMI is good for raising awareness in marine environmental issues, encouraging the community to proactively participate in a movement to reduce marine litter.
SPOGOMI is good for the Earth, reducing litter that flows into the ocean!
